David D. Markert, 87, of White Bear Lake, MN, formerly of Centuria, WI was born on July 8 th , 1932 in St Paul MN, and died on February 22, 2020 at his home in White Bear Lake. Preceded in death by parents Aloysius and Frances (Speth) Markert; sisters: Eleanor (Bernard) Hoye, Ann (Edward) Kelly, and Lois (Le) Stegner; brothers: Allan (Florence), John (Carol), and Phillip. Survived by: wife, Judith; children: Therese, Amy (Scott), Thomas (Susan), Sara, Andrew and Matthew; grandchildren: David, Andrew, and Alexander (Annie); great grandchild: Athan; sister Mary (Douglas) Platt, and a host of in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Dave was a proud alumnus of St Thomas Academy in St Paul, MN and graduated from Loyola University in Chicago with a PhD in clinical psychology. He practiced his profession for 60 years in Indiana, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
Dave & Judy lived in Centuria, WI for 50 years, where Dave was Village President for 9 years and served as a Trustee of the Village Board for 16 years. He was active in many other civic organizations and in the Catholic Church communities of St Patrick and Our Lady of the Lakes. Dave was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed singing and was a cantor and a member of the church choir.
Dave loved spending time with family at Gull Lake in MN, a destination beloved by generations of his family. He was an avid fisherman and loved being on or in the water (lakes, rivers, oceans).
Dave’s family and friends will miss his ready smile, positive disposition, loving patience, unwavering kindness, generous spirit, animated story telling, and his wonderful sense of humor. His steadfast devotion and humble service to his God, family, country, and community will be remembered and treasured by all who knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 7 th at 11am at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church in Balsam Lake, WI. Father Gene Murphy will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10am. Following the Mass, please join the family for lunch and fellowship in the church community room.
