Delwin Robert Carter

Delwin Robert Carter, age 82, beloved son, husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 5th, 2023.

Del was born on November 15th,1940 at the hospital in Fairfax, South Dakota and raised with his 10 siblings on the family farm in Dallas, South Dakota. Del received a B.A. from Northern State College, SD and his M.A. from the University of Colorado, in Boulder, CO. He spent time teaching and eventually began a career in real estate. Later in life, while living in Minnesota, Del met and married his best friend and the love of his life Penny on May 23rd,1987. Together they enjoyed over 36 years together of adventures and laughter. They moved to a ranch in Berryton, Kansas where Del enjoyed caring for their horses and taking long walks with Penny and favorite canine companions. Del enjoyed country music, working with his hands building and repairing things and doing many projects with Penny. They retired to Balsam Lake, Wisconsin and continued taking walks in the woods and going out for ice cream.

Del is preceded in death by his parents Guy Franklin Carter and Frances Ilona (Vavra) Carter and all of his siblings. Del will be greatly missed for his love of nature, sense of adventure, humor, strong faith, and his wise advice and counsel. He leaves to celebrate his memory, loving wife Penny Carter, children Thad (Tamara) and Corrin (Dan) Carter, Chandra (Dan) Henrich, Terese (Dana) Thune, Jenni (Rob) Mohr, and Chris (Rick) Olsen.  Grandchildren Joel (Samantha), Leif and Josephine Thune, Allison (Joe) O’Hara, Matthew Mohr, Carly Willard, Emma Overbye and Great- Granddaughter Emberly Willard.

A service of Christian comfort and a celebration of Del’s life will be held in Amery, Wisconsin at The Congregational Church of Amery at 1pm on Thursday, February 16th. A one hour visitation will precede the service with a luncheon to follow.

Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.
