Hillary "Bud" Charles Winegarden
June 23, 1921 — March 27, 2014
Hillary “Bud” Charles Winegarden, 92, of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, formerly of Luck, Wisconsin and Alaska, passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. Bud was born on June 23, 1921 in Portage County, Wisconsin the son of Charles and Irene (Matthews) Winegarden. As a young man Bud lived in Luck, Wisconsin and then made his way to Alaska where he made his home and resided for 40 years until returning to Wisconsin where he then spent time living with his daughters. Bud then moved to the Wisconsin Veterans Home in 2013 in Chippewa Falls where he resided until he passed away.
He was a fine artist; he hand carved figurines and diamond willow lamps. He was known as “Willow Bud” to many in Alaska. He was a jack of all trades and even taught himself to play many musical instruments which he became very good at. He hand built his home in Alaska. He was a pool shark and was teaching his great great grandchildren how to play the game. He will be dearly missed.
Bud leaves to celebrate his memory: daughters, Bonnie (Barry) Zbleski, Frederic, WI; Tandae Yarbrough, Cleveland, TN; Candae (Dean) Woellner, Elkhorn, WI; Crystal Winegarden (Paul Lisiecki), Lake Holcombe, WI; sister, Lorraine Follen, Vesper, WI; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Jack, Warren and Roger Winegarden and sons Bud and Aaron Winegarden.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 3:00 P.M. at the Kolstad Family Funeral Home in Centuria. Bud’s family will be greeting visitors at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 P.M. He will be laid to rest at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Cemetery, Luck, Wisconsin in the spring.
