Lane H. Burke died suddenly after a car accident on Friday afternoon, November 8th. He leaves behind his wife, Lisa Burke; his daughters, Kelly and Karly Burke, both of whom are graduating from medical school and getting married next year to lovely young men, David Liu and Derek Murphy; his brothers Lee, Lyle and Loren Burke, who is married to the "first" Lisa Burke; and his sister Linda Spears, married to David Spears.
Lane was born and raised in Duluth and had worked on the railroad as a young man. He was an Eagle Scout, and had served proudly in the National Guards. He earned his Master's Degree in Industrial Safety from the University of Minnesota in Duluth and eventually moved to St. Paul to work for Gillette and the St. Paul Companies, later Travelers. Lane was a loving, generous, talented, energetic, active, inquisitive, organized, positive man who was very engaged in the world, and in his community - he was on the board of the Polk County Museum and active in the Loveless Lake Association. He was so very proud of his daughters, and delighted in their successes. He loved to travel and explore, and loved to spend the coldest months in Florida at his condo, but the cabin on Loveless Lake with its beautiful screened-in porch overlooking the water (his "cathedral") was his favorite place on earth. Lane realized every day that, by being able to take an early retirement, he was a very fortunate man indeed. He enjoyed good health and the talent to fix or build just about anything. Life was very good. He will be missed terribly.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 14 at 3:00 P.M. at Unity Church Unitarian, 733 Portland Avenue, St. Paul, Minnesota 55104. The family will greet visitors at the church prior to the Memorial Service.
