Lavonne Marie Annette Knutson Lumsden, 78, St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, passed away Saturday, June 13, 2020. She was born June 26, 1941 to Louella and Melvin Knutson in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The family of five lived in Montana for six months until her father was killed in a car accident. The family then moved to Wisconsin and lived with Louella’s parents on their farm. Louella remarried and the family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and then settled on their farm in Frederic.
After graduating from Frederic High School, Lavonne went to work at Sears Roebuck in Minneapolis until she married Robert Lumsden Jr. in March of 1961. She then worked at a sewing factory until raising a family of five sons and babysitting other children. When the kids were grown, Lavonne went back to work. She did a short stint at the St. Croix Falls Hospital, worked five years at the Cushing Post Office and then worked at the St. Croix Falls School District for 22 years before retiring.
Lavonne enjoyed having family and friends around. She liked freezing and canning, making maple syrup and ice cream. Some of her hobbies included baking and doing crafts. She enjoyed working with the ELCA Women and Bible Study.
Lavonne is survived by her husband of 59 years, Robert; five sons, Jon, Steven (Tye), Jason (Amy), Mark (Jodi), Scott (Becca); 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Charlotte Anderson, Lorraine (Donald) Korts, Cheryl Hart; brother, Wayne Giller; special friend, Sue Jensen and many other loving family and friends.
Lavonne is preceded in death by her father, Melvin Knutson; mother, Louella (Oliver) Giller; and brother, Gary Giller.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Lutheran Church in Cushing on Saturday, June 12, 2021 at 11 AM. Lavonne's family will greet guests at the church beginning at 10 AM.
She will be laid to rest at the Cushing Cemetery following the service. A lunch will be served following the cemetery service.
