Lucille Ann Merrill “Gaa Ge biikwe”, 65 of Aitkin, MN passed away at the University of Minnesota Medical Center on Monday, April 22, 2019 with her family at her side. Lucille was born on July 6, 1953 in Amery, Wisconsin the daughter of Kenneth Sr. and Madeline Merrill.
Lucille grew up at the Round Lake Community until the age of 10 and the moved with her family to the East Lake Community near McGregor, MN. She served in the United States Army and upon completion with the her time in the armed forces she lived and worked in Minneapolis as a machinist, cable installer, cab driver and various other jobs. She worked right up until she became disabled.
She enjoyed socializing, visiting the casino, playing bingo, dancing and especially ceremonial dancing, doing artwork as well as other activities. She enjoyed spending time with her family; she was one to make sure that her home was spotless. She was adventurous, very passionate about her family, she had a humorous personality, and she was kind hearted a very giving person and a caring and loving person. She will be dearly missed.
Lucille was preceded in death by her grandparents, her parents, Kenneth Sr. and Madeline Merrill, son, Jerry Nichols, brothers, Kenneth Jr. “Boy” Merrill and Louis Moose, nephew, John Moose and grandson, Pierre Neal. She is survived by her children, Clinton Nichols and Suzette (David) Neal, grandchildren, Emma Nichols, Ayla Erlitz, Orlando Neal, David Rice Jr. and Jeremiah Rice, great grandchildren, siblings, Brenda (Merrill) Moose, Louise (Moose) Villebrun, Wesley Merrill and Vincent Merrill, many nieces, nephews and other family and friends. She is also survived by Weh-wehs, Renee Johnson and Ani’ Mik Aubid and others.
Visitation for Lucille will be held at the Round Lake Community Center in rural Luck, Wisconsin on Wednesday, April 24, 2019 beginning at 2:00 P.M. and continued until services begin on Thursday at 12 Noon. She will then be laid to rest at the Johnstown Cemetery in Round Lake.
Pallbearers will be Samuel Moose, Jeffrey John Moose, Christopher Bugg, Julius Aubid, John Aubid and Orlando Neal. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lester Merrill, Danny Bugg, Tommy Bugg, Mike Aubid, Tommy Benjamin and Anthony Bugg.
The Kolstad Family Funeral Home of Centuria has been entrusted with arrangements.
