Maxine (Gallentine) Knapp

August 13, 1923 — December 9, 2019

Maxine Gallentine Cox Knapp passed away on December 9, 2019 at Divine Rehab and Nursing Home, St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin at the age of 96. Maxine was born on August 13, 1923 in Farnhamville, Iowa to Oscar and Mabel (Johnson) Gallentine. Maxine was the fifth of six children.

Maxine graduated from Gowrie, Iowa high school. She married Harold E. Cox on June 24, 1941. Harold and Maxine had three children. All were born at the old Riegel St. Croix Falls Hospital in Wisconsin. Maxine and Harold lived in various locations including the areas of Centuria, Wisconsin and Farnhamville, Iowa. Harold’s skill as an electrician, machinist, village engineer, marshal and farmer supported Maxine and their family. Maxine held jobs outside the home but primarily was a homemaker, wife and mom. Harold passed away January 19, 1976 of complications from cardiac surgery. Maxine married Sanford Knapp on October 13, 1977. They lived in rural Dresser, WI until his passing on December 18, 1997. Maxine and Sandy worshipped at The Grace Believer’s Fellowship in Centuria, joining with others who believe the “Glorious Gospel of the Grace of God” which places those who believe into the body of Christ Jesus, our Lord, giving redemption through His blood, forgiveness of sins and life everlasting. Maxine thanks God for each life that touched her along life’s way. (1 Thessalonians 5:23-24)

Survivors include: daughter, Cheryl Vaudt (Phil), Green Valley, AZ; sons, Craig S. Cox (Elaine), Centuria, WI; Kirk E. Cox (Joan) of Maple Grove, MN; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Gloria Burns; step-children, Cynthia, Karen and Susan.

Maxine was preceded in death by: her husbands, Harold E. Cox and Sanford G. Knapp; parents, Oscar and Mabel Gallentine; sister, Gail Bassett; brothers, Gerald, Earl, Kearney and Dale Gallentine; grandson, Chad Cox.

Private services with be held at the Kolstad Family Funeral Home in Centuria, Wisconsin with interment at St. John’s cemetery at a later date.
