Michael "Mike" C. Helmen

Michael “Mike” Helmen, 78, of Balsam Lake, Wisconsin passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 26, 2019 at the Amery Regional Medical Center.  Mike was born on April 5, 1941 in Bode, Iowa the son of Miles and Barbara Helmen.

Mike attended school in Iowa and graduated from high school in Bode, Iowa in 1959.   He then attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota and graduated in 1963.  He made a career in merchandising for mass retail stores and eventually moved to Balsam Lake 25 years ago where he and his wife Denise owned and operated the Indianhead Supper Club in Balsam Lake.  Mike will be truly missed.

Mike leaves to celebrate his memory, wife, Denise Cohen, Balsam Lake, WI; son, Michael (Megan) Helmen, Farmington, MN; daughter, Nicole (Jenn) Helmen-Hendrickson, Tampa, FL; daughter, Tammy Von, Edina, MN, son, Marcus (Andi) Cohen, Wayzata, MN, grandchildren: David Helmen, Alexandra Radtke, Jackie Von, Richie Von, Sydney Cohen, Jack Cohen and Charlie Cohen, great grandson, Lucas Von and other family and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Miles and Barbara, a son, David Helmen and his sister, Sandra Aashiem.

A “Celebration of Life Service” for Mike will be on Sunday, September 1, 2019 at 1:00 P.M. at the Indianhead Supper Club in Balsam Lake.  Pastor Maggie Isaacson will conduct the service.

Mike’s family will greet guests at the Indianhead beginning at 12 Noon.
