C. Virginia (Andersen) Nelson, 87 of Luck, WI passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN.
Virginia was born on the Andersen farm in Luck on November 4, 1933 to Joseph E. and Minnie (Jensen) Andersen. While in high school, Virginia worked behind the candy counter in the DeLux Movie Theater in Luck and at Stokley’s canning factory in the summers. After graduating from Luck High School, she moved to Minneapolis and worked for AT&T, where she began as a telephone operator, progressing until she held a supervisory role in the billing department.
In the summer of 1961, she began dating Lloyd Nelson. They married on July 21, 1962 and made their home in Luck. She continued working at AT&T for a short time thereafter. Later, she was employed at McNally’s in Grantsburg, was Co-Owner of The North Luck Cash Store with her husband, Lloyd, worked at the Polk County Treasurer’s Office, and 39 years as the Treasurer for the Town of Luck. She also served as the Treasurer for the Luck Lutheran ALCW for several years.
Virginia enjoyed knitting and sewing. She knit sweaters and sewed for many family members over the years. She was also a certified instructor for a time, for the Bernina Company, and provided lessons for new machine purchasers. Virginia was a sewing leader for 4-H and served as an assistant to sewing judges at the Polk County Fair. She also adored going to the Dairy Queen for ice cream and treats.
Virginia was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She made it a point to be there when children or grandchildren had a concert or sporting event no matter the distance. If a new grandchild was born, she was sure to visit before that child left the hospital. She was known for baking the favorite cookies or cake for family members on their birthday, or holiday. Virginia always took meticulous care of her house and yard, caring for flowers and snow removal. If her yard or kitchen looked unkempt it made her uneasy.
Virginia leaves to celebrate her memory: her husband, Lloyd Nelson, Luck, WI; children, Shelley (Jerry) Sorenson, Arcadia, WI; Bruce Nelson, Forest Lake, MN; grandchildren: Chris (Rebecca) Sorenson, Middleton, WI; Carl (Mara) Sorenson, Crystal, MN; Catherine (Alex) Mossman, Onalaska, WI; Collin Sorenson (Lynsie Jones), Eau Claire, WI; Austin Nelson, Forest Lake, MN; great-grandchildren: Nolan, Nell, and Nadia Sorenson, Middleton, WI; siblings, Melva Jean (Weston) Plath, Sharon (Earl) Silbaugh, sister-in-law, Bette Andersen, nieces, nephews, and other loving family and friends.
